Christopher Skilbeck qualified in Medicine from Guy's, King's & St Thomas' Hospitals Medical School in 2002. He dedicated himself to obtaining the best available training in otolaryngology. The majority of Mr Skilbeck's ENT training has been in London, working in many of the major London Teaching Hospitals, including Guy's & St Thomas' The Royal Marsden, Great Ormond Street, Charing Cross and The Royal National Throat, Nose & Ear Hospitals.

On completion of his Otolaryngology training and admission to the specialist register of the GMC in January of 2013 Mr Skilbeck embarked on fellowship training in Skull Base Surgery and advanced Otology. The first of his fellowship posts was in London at Guy's and King's College Hospitals and The National Hospital of Neurology & Neurosurgery, Queen Square. Following this, a further fellowship post took him to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. Whilst there, Mr Skilbeck undertook a research degree into balance dysfunction in patients with Neurofibromatosis Type 2.

In addition to his UK-based training, Mr Skilbeck has been fortunate to receive numerous awards to allow him to travel overseas to learn from international experts in USA, Italy and France.

Mr Skilbeck returned to London to start consultant work in 2014, subsequently being appointed as a Consultant with expertise in Otology and Facial Nerve at Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

As a Consultant, Mr Skilbeck has continued to develop his expertise in Ear Surgery. He is an enthusiast of Endoscopic Ear Surgery - where possible performing ear surgery via the ear canal using an operating endoscope to visualise the middle ear structures - avoiding the need for an incision, thereby preserving the normal anatomy and reducing the discomfort for the patient.

Mr Skilbeck has a special interest in patients with Eustachian Tube Dysfunction and has pioneered a novel treatment in the UK for these patients - Balloon Eustachian Tuboplasty. This commonplace treatment in mainland Europe and North America provides symptomatic relief from the feelings of pressure and helps to allow the patient to equalise their middle ear pressure normally.

Patients requiring tonsil surgery will be pleased to note that Mr Skilbeck routinely utilises the most innovative techniques and is an exponent of Coblation Intracapsular Tonsillectomy. This technique provides the patient with thorough removal of the tonsil tissue whilst ensuring a smooth post-operative course with minimal pain and a very low rate of bleeding.
